You may have seen this story in the news this past week. The very last male northern white rhino on the face of the planet is being guarded around the clock to try to prevent its extinction. Poachers hunt these rhinos for their horns.

It’s one of only three left in existence, the other two being females.

You may have also seen another story that made the rounds of the web and social media, announcing the extinction of the West African black rhino this past week. This story was, sadly, a fake.

Fake because the West African black rhino did not go extinct last week. Sad because it’s actually been extinct since 2011.

Steps to Help
No one will ever see a West African black rhino again, but there may still be hope to save the future of the northern white rhino, possibly through artificial insemination, though these methods might not work.

This rhino – his name, by the way, is Sudan – is one of the main reasons why I’m participating in my second Canada Life CN Tower Stair Climb for World Wildlife Fund Canada, on April 25th – one week from today!

If you sponsor my climb, your donation will be used by WWF-Canada to have maximum impact on efforts to save at-risk wildlife species like the Northern White Rhino and their habitats.

Stepping Up
I’m also hoping to beat my time from last year’s climb (my first attempt) and get under the 20-minute mark. That’s all 1,776 steps, 147 floors of the third-tallest tower in the world, the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere.

Think I can do it?

CN Tower Climb 2014

But I won’t be able to help anything or beat any time if I don’t raise a minimum of $75 in the next week. I’m just over 25% of the way there now, and with your help, we can make it!

This year is the 25th anniversary of the CN Tower Stair Climb, so what better time to support this great event that focuses our attention and our energies on helping to save endangered wildlife on this beautiful planet we all share.

Please follow the link below and give what you can. Five bucks, ten bucks – any amount helps.

Thank you for supporting these efforts. Let’s write a better ending to this story.
