January 8, 2013. It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything here. Too long. But it’s a new year, and there’s always room for new beginnings, so maybe this will be the start of a more regular blogging schedule. Or maybe semi-regular. Trouble with me is, writing and working with words all day, it’s usually not what I want to do when I get [continue…]

As you may know, I’ve been participating in Movember for the first time as part of the team at work, MojanOne, growing a moustache to raise awareness and money for men’s health and prostate cancer. It’s coming along quite nicely, if I do say so myself. In fact, it’s kind of growing on me! (Ha) My goal has been to raise $500, and I’m getting [continue…]

The Windows of the World (Burt Bacharach/Hal David) The windows of the world are covered with rain Where is the sunshine we once knew? Ev’rybody knows when little children play They need a sunny day to grow straight and tall Let the sun shine through The windows of the world are covered with rain When will those black skies turn to blue? Here’s my review of Elvis Costello’s Toronto stop on the Spectacular Spinning Songbook tour for Torontoist. Definitely one of the funnest concerts I’ve ever been to, even though I was punching the clock, so to speak. Musically, it was simply amazing. Here are some YouTube clips shot by audience members. Set list below.   Set List: I Hope You’re Happy Now Heart of the City [continue…]

It features interviews with Ian LeFeuvre, Kurt Swinghammer, Gordie Sampson and Simon Wilcox. share: Recommend on Facebook Share on Linkedin share via Reddit Tumblr it Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments [continue…]

By now we’re all well aware that the world will end this Saturday, May 21, 2011. At least, according to this group. So that only leaves one question: Are you ready for the McWrapture? share: Recommend on Facebook Share on Linkedin share via Reddit Tumblr it Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this post Tell a friend

The killing of Osama bin Laden and its fallout continue to be major stories dominating the 24-hour news cycle and crystallizing an array of responses from celebration to condemnation. Did bin Laden get what he deserved? It’s hard to not feel that way. But I found the responses of many—the tailgate-party-like celebrations, the chest-thumping, and the rah-rah-rah’ing—a little distasteful, though I suppose I can understand [continue…]

I was fortunate enough to attend the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame 7th Annual Gala a couple of weekends ago here in Toronto. Among those inducted, the most famous were Robbie Robertson and Québec songwriter Luc Plamondon. I won’t attempt a complete summary of the night, as my friend Steve McLean did a bang-up job at that for his blog here, and I don’t think [continue…]

Did you survive another St. Patrick’s Day? Me, I didn’t partake in the revelry, although while sitting at home I did enjoy a nice pint of Guinness—possibly two—which I poured and imbibed with extra mindfulness; St. Patrick’s Day of course being an occasion for those of us with Irish heritage to reflect upon our history and where we came from. share: Recommend on Facebook Share [continue…]
